You in five words...
Mediterranean wanderer dialoguing across Europe.
Your work in five words...
In search of unusual details.
Pharmacy and Photography, why
Because they are two complementary ways to try to understand how human beings and our society interact. While the first activity is about helping people with how they live, the second one is more about to question them on what they are living.
Photography in the era of social network…
Social networks are using and abusing 'images' that are not photography. Everything now is more focussed on editing aesthetical pictures than on thinking about the photographic work and process in itself. That's one of the reasons I went back to analog photography in order to re-experiment this feeling. On the other hand I'm fascinated by how people literally 'curate' the photos they post. Especially when they are not their own images. It gives a strong visual impact to profiles that follow an headline rather than posting stuff randomly.
Your last project…
My last series‘Obsolete Galenics’ is an attempt to confront young people to outdated medicinal objects. I am interested in seeing how a younger public reacts to them considering most of these people had never used such products and that they sometimes weren't even aware of their function or existence. Left behind by a medical industry that is eager for technological novelties, these rather traditional remedies take on a new lease of life when used by a young generation that is more and more concerned by what they consume...
I've chosen to mix black and white grainy analog photographies for portraits with colorful « sanitized» packshots for the objects.
Photography and self-publishing, what’s your thinking…
I really have this feeling that books are the new medium artists want to use and play with. Zines and photobooks have to be considered as a final artwork in itself. They trigger a new space and way of exhibiting photography: From white walls to white sheets ! The public is receptive to the object, they want to feel the paper in their hands and flip through it rather than scrolling down photos on their screens.
My wish to get into this editing and publishing activity is not just about releasing my own books but also about inviting other photographers, graphic designersand writers to exchange experiences in the creation of a collaborative publication.
